In 2016 I travelled to Argentina for three months, and in the middle of the trip the situation in Venezuela changed everything. My cards stopped working overnight.
I found a night job at a kiosk. I walked everywhere, I was cold because I didn’t have the right clothes, and for a month I lived on rice and eggs because that was all I could afford. Meanwhile: interviews. Lots of them.
One day I went along with someone else to their interview. They asked me what I was doing there and I said: “I came to keep this person company. But if you’d like to interview me too, I don’t mind.” I walked out with a job that same day.
It was a sales role at a multinational telecoms company. For a year I was the top seller among more than 50 colleagues, and I started helping to select new hires. I’ve worked in recruitment since 2017: first sales profiles, then tech, and today as a recruiter in Spain.
Today I sit on the other side of the table. I know what it feels like to look for work against the odds, and I know what the person deciding looks for. That combination is what I bring to every CV I review.
